Windows 7 x64 build 7057

Last night the first thing I did after coming back from work was installing Windows 7 build 7057. I had build 7000 already installed. There was no need for backing up because all my data and user profile stuff were kept in a separate partition. So the only thing I had to do is boot with the DVD I burned before going to work, format the system partition and install. I left it to do its thing, and went to take a shower.

When I came back, it had done most of what it could do without user intervention. The setup had stopped and was waiting for me to enter the name of the owner and the PC. After inputting them, it took about another 3 minutes and I was in the desktop :) The important change from beta setup was that the setup background was replaced by a new one. Nothing important, but something *new* lol

Note: The welcome screen also had the same new background as what was there in the setup screen. :)

So far it has been really stable and pretty fast. I wouldn’t say this is faster than build 7057. There isn’t any significant difference between the performance of the two builds.

Add Remove Program Features Windows 7 One important feature that this build brought was the ability to remove certain applications that were deemed impossible to be removed from it. Examples are IE8, WMP, WMC, DVD Maker. There are many more things that you can remove, but I kept them. I removed IE8, WMP, WMC, DVD Maker, Games, Gadgets because I don’t use them. But after I installed Windows Live Messenger and tried to enabled “Show what I’m listening to” in the status message, I couldn’t! It gave an error message that WMP was not found in the system. So it really needs WMP. I didn’t think it needed WMP to act as the middleman to WLM and …say, iTunes. So I reinstalled WMP. Now things are back to where they should be.

nVidia’s latest driver for Windows 7 is version 181.71 and I installed that. Just as in build 7000, it was still incompatible with Rivatuner. Now I can’t lower the clocks at idle (to save power) not increase the clocks when playing games (to increase fps)… nVidia system tools is not cool! Very hard to understand. *sigh*

One thing that I’m happy to say about this build is that I’m not experiencing the language bar problem which was discussed here, anymore. I still shouldn’t be over my head about it, because it might be triggered by something in the future. I don’t know what caused the issues. *fingers crossed*

Windows Experience Index Windows 7 Anyway, I ran Windows Experience Index and it gave only 5.9 this time. In beta I got 6.0. Hmmm…

See the theme also is different now. It’s light blue from dark blue in beta. :D

I also remember in beta I had a hard time ejecting flash drives. I just ejected flash drive and it worked as it should have.

By now Windows has finished indexing the drives. I manually set what I wanted to index. Didn’t want resources getting wasted on indexing stuff that I never search for.

 Indexing Status Windows 7

Guess that’s all for now. I will update if/when something worth posting comes up :)
